THE FAITHFUL MINDSET

FAQ

Q: What is a faithful mindset?

A: A faithful mindset means to practice the renewing of our mind, spoken of in Romans 12:2:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.”(NIV)

We may be living a godly life already and yet we may not realize that we have allowed our mind to develop worldly ways of thinking, such as using judgment and negative thinking to tear others or ourselves down. We also may be allowing our fears to hold us back from loving others as God intended.

Our focus is going to be partly on our thoughts and how we may not realize they can still be hurtful and help you discover ways to improve your perspective of yourself, the world and others around you and who God is to you.

By working at developing a more positive mindset first, we are more equipped to make changes in our daily habits that can improve our relationship with others, God and ourselves.

Q: How long does it take to develop a faithful mindset?

A: I wish I could give you an “arrival” date, but practicing a faithful mindset is needed our entire lives just as John 16.33 says:

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (NIV)

Like an athlete, it takes time to get in shape, so depending on where you are now, will also determine how long it will take for you to see improvement and lasting change.  It will at times feel like three steps forward, two steps back and sometimes stagnant, this is to be expected as our brain gets used to the idea of change, so we’ll also be practicing grace for ourselves along the way. Overtime, you will be able to look back on your progress.

And remember this, we are not meant to do this on our own. I could never have made so much progress without turning my face towards Jesus and letting go of my need to control everything in my life. We must first learn to get out of our own way so he can step in as a reliable partner for change.

Q: What if my situation requires medical attention?

A:  If you feel you need greater support than what our studies provide, please reach out to a qualified professional for assistance. We are not physicians, mental health experts or counselors.

Q: What if I might be in an abusive situation?

A: Abuse can take shape in many forms and often leaves us confused and possibly even unaware that abuse is involved. If you think you might be in an abusive relationship, this nonprofit organization provides resources for victims and is run by former victims who will know how to help. They provide a questionnaire to determine if abuse is involved and an “Exit Safely” button on their website that leaves no trace of use in your computer history.

Q: What version of bible do you use for quoting scripture?

A: We enjoy using several bible versions, depending on how we want the message to sound in our studies. We choose to not mention versions within the study so not to distract you from focusing on the message itself. You can find all our scripture and bible versions mentioned on our “Scripture Message Resource” page. You are also free to look up scripture on your own using your favorite version.

Q: What if I don’t want to continue with my studies?
